Santo Domingo.- Economist Guillermo Caram labeled U.S. President Joe Biden’s claim of preventing Haiti’s collapse as cynical, asserting that U.S. inaction and omissions, both directly and through international organizations, have exacerbated Haiti’s decline. Caram expressed hope that the upcoming U.S. administration will adopt measures to halt Haiti’s collapse, which he warns poses significant risks to the Dominican Republic due to its proximity.
Caram highlighted Haiti’s lack of governance and institutional order, which stifles economic activity and leaves many Haitians unemployed. This economic stagnation drives migration to the Dominican Republic, where sectors like agriculture and construction seek labor that local workers often avoid. However, the unregulated binational market, marked by smuggling and illegal trade, undermines the economic benefits for both nations, depriving them of significant tax and tariff revenues.
He also warned of broader risks to the Dominican Republic, including potential mass migrations, the infiltration of gang members, and challenges to the country’s security forces. Caram called for improved governance and bilateral cooperation to address these issues, ensuring stability and mutual economic benefits for both nations.
Rest assured, there is simply nothing more important to Donald Trump than helping Haitians. That said, I’m pretty sure that entire article was about RD failures to govern it’s land and people. Why the U.S. bashing headline?
Looks like the DR have to bite the bullet and actually do something with Haiti without asking the U.S. or the UN to do all that shit for it. Protecting the border and closing airspace to Haiti are fine and all, but bad actors will still find another way to reach into the DR and cause chaos. They’re not stupid.
Why is the US always being blamed? Haiti has to clean up its own act. It can ask for help from any country. However, we should not hold countries responsible for Haiti’s problems if they do send or do not send aid and/or guidance.

Haiti will not die .Haiti leaders are to blame in the first place, they are doing the job for who you know. Haiti should close all the borders and see if DR will not come to the table of negotiation and show respect to the Haitian that are their interpreters in their hotels building houses for them, working in agriculture. Most Dominicans don’t speak more than one language, you know who do? Haitians. I am proud to be Haitian because I can speak 5 languages . Let the haters go to another planet because their blood is not red . Haiti and DR will always be brothers and sisters. Que viva Haiti y Republica Dominicana. Love will prevail.
a border sealed is a country saved. simply seal it and send them back and bring about longer incarceration terms for everyone involved in illegal immigration and you never have to worry about asking for the US to help. because you solved the problem yourselfs!
