Survey | Main problems: high cost and violence

According to the results of the RD Elige survey prepared for RCC Media, the Dominican Republic’s five main problems are the high cost of living, the economic crisis, violence, low wages, and insecurity.

When asked, “What do you consider to be the country’s main problem?” 21.4% of respondents answered the high cost of living, followed by 10.9% who cited the economic crisis. 10.1% responded to violence, 8.8% understood low wages, and 8.6% said insecurity.

According to the study, other problems that generate concern are corruption (7.8%), the migratory situation (7.7%), education (4.3%), lack of electricity (4.2%), and unemployment (3.5%, respectively).

There are also other problems such as poverty, health and drug trafficking, with 3.4%; 2.3% and 1.5%, respectively.

The citizens surveyed also identified drug addiction and pollution, with 1.1% and 1.0%, respectively.

Deportations

When addressing the issue of the increase in deportations, 81.1% of those consulted said they agreed, compared to 18.9% who expressed their disagreement with these measures, which, in the case of the Dominican territory, affect Haitian nationals in most cases.

Relations with the US

On the question: How do you think the Dominican Republic will fare with Donald Trump as president of the United States? Most maintain a positive and hopeful attitude.

In detail, 46.5% of citizens responded between excellent and sound, while 23.3% think the country will do fairly. 14.5% consider that it will be between bad and terrible.

Right Path

48.8% of those surveyed believe that the Dominican Republic is on the right track, compared to 46.6% who think it is on the wrong track. 4.6 percent of citizens said they did not know the country’s fate.

For this report, 2,752 Dominicans aged 18 and over residing in the national territory were consulted. The survey was carried out from February 10 to 15 of this year. Sampling is random stratified. The confidence level is 95%, and the margin of error is +3.2%.

Assessment

Regarding the level of evaluation, President Luis Abinader has an acceptance of 66.8%, registering a decrease of 2.5% compared to the previous month, where he obtained 69.3%. The vice president also presented a decrease of 2.2%, going from 55.9% acceptance to 53.7%.

The Chamber of Deputies and the Senate improved their perception, reaching 49.3% and 49.0%, respectively. In the previous installment, they were 48.9% and 48.8%, respectively.

Asked which party they would vote for, if the elections were held today, 45.4% of citizens would vote for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM); 22.3% for the People’s Force Party (FP) and 10.7% for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).

Confidence Level

According to the report, universities, the church, the Presidency, the Central Electoral Board (JCE), the Central Bank, and the Attorney General’s Office are among the institutions with the highest level of trust.
