Customs seizes 37 firearms smuggled from the U.S.

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s General Directorate of Customs (DGA) intercepted 37 firearms at the port of Haina, dealing a significant blow to arms smuggling. The shipment, originating from Brooklyn, was concealed inside two compressor tanks within a container. Among the seized weapons were 30 rifles of various calibers, six Glock Gen 5 pistols, a Smith & Wesson SD9 VE pistol, and 37 rifle magazines.
The discovery was made possible through the use of advanced X-ray scanners, highlighting the effectiveness of modern security measures in detecting contraband. The DGA has reinforced its commitment to national security by implementing high-tech tools such as bodycams in ports and bodyscanners in airports to combat illegal activities.
With ongoing efforts to curb smuggling, the DGA has collaborated with judicial authorities in both the Dominican Republic and the United States, contributing to over 100 cases related to arms trafficking.
