Woman sentenced to 30 years for murdering Canadian in Puerto Plata

The Collegiate Court of Puerto Plata has sentenced Angélica María López González to 30 years in prison for the murder of Canadian citizen Reynald Payant. The incident occurred on April 15, 2022.

The Public Ministry successfully proved López González’s criminal responsibility, citing violations of multiple articles of the Dominican Penal Code related to murder, premeditated crime, and aggravated robbery.

Furthermore, evidence presented by the prosecution revealed López González’s illegal use of bladed weapons against the Dominican State. According to a statement, investigations showed that López González, disguised in a blue coat, masks, and dark glasses, entered Payant’s residence and fatally stabbed him six times with knives, as confirmed by report No. SR-195-2022 from the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF).

Moreover, López González was observed leaving the crime scene dressed in the victim’s clothing, carrying a suitcase containing money and valuables belonging to Reynald Payant.

The court has ordered López González to serve her sentence at the San Felipe Correction and Rehabilitation Center.
