Santo Domingo.- Sunday was Father’s Day in the Dominican Republic and president Danilo Medina broke his weekly routine of “surprise visits” to small producers in rural areas and instead spent the day with his family.

Medina usually visits farmers to listen to their concerns and offer assistance in the shape of credit for their small enterprises.

In his Father’s Day greetings message issued on Friday, the president urged Dominican fathers to raise their children in a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere. He also listed the responsibilities that the task involves.

“I send cordial greetings to everyone who, like me, enjoys the privilege of having someone who calls me ‘Dad.’ Being a father goes far beyond reproducing. Being a father means taking on the responsibility and the qualities that this fact entails, to become a protector, an advisor, a giver of affection to his children, and a living example, together with his wife or partner, of the harmony that should reign in the home,” he added.
