Everybody gets a pay raise, except private sector workers

Santo Domingo.- While the justices of the Electoral and Constitutional courts increase their own salaries to as high as RD$440,764 per month, the three-way talks to raise workers’ wages have ground to a halt.
As labor struggles with management to raise the minimum wage-as low as RD$8,000 per month in many cases- the Justice Ministry, the National Police and the Defense Ministry also announce a pay raise.
Union leader Rafael –Pepe- Abreu last week warned of “social upheaval” if management maintains its position of discussing a wage increase based on rolling back employee benefits, especially the severance pay.
