Dominican Cueto hurls gem in historic game fraught with firsts

Kansas City.- KansasCity Royals fans know Johnny Cueto. They’ve known him since hewas acquired from the Cincinnati Reds. He was lauded when he threw a pitching gemagainst the Houston Astros. Now everyone knows him.
MLB.com reports that Cuetoearned the kudos with a jewel from the mound to limit the New York Mets to justone run and two hits in a complete game.
Cueto led the Royals ina 7 to 1 win to put the American League champs just two wins away from the club´ssecond MLB crown in history.
The veteran right-handerbecame the first hurler in October Classic history to pitch nine innings withtwo hits or less since Atlanta Braves immortal Greg Maddux in Game 1 of the1995 World Series against the Cleveland Indians.
And no pitcher in theAmerican League had ever obtained a similar feat since Jim Longborg with theRed Sox in Game 2 of the 1967 World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
