Oller, Ricart take Royal British Chamber Cup crown

Casa de Campo, La Romana.- Juan Oller and Enrique Ricart won top honors of the 20th annual Royal Cup of the British Chamber, with best gross score at 63 strokes, in the contest that took place in the iconic Teeth of the Dog in this city.

Oller and Ricart, in addition to having their name engraved on the cup, received replicas of the Claret Jug, a cup given to the British Golf Open champions.

The Royal Cup, which brought together 120 players, was led by Great Britain ambassador, Chris Campbell, who made the opening tee-off for the event played under the modality of scramble in pairs in the categories A, B and C for men and a unique division for ladies.

Rafael Canario and Eduardo Vega led category A with 62 strokes, followed by Eugene Rault Grullón and Juan Tomás Mejía with 63, to Jabar and Hanut Sing’s 64 strokes.

Juan Velázquez and Fabricio Schettini topped category B at 62 strokes, followed by José Nicasio and José Ventura with 64, after beating Luis Mejía and Guillermo Sicard in a tiebreaker.

Category C went to José Miguel Olivero and Miguel Fernández with 64 strokes, followed by Ryan Polanco and Jorge Lopez with 66, while José Zapata and Luis de León finished with 67 strokes.

Ladies

Mary Ledesma and Cecilia Rosado were the champions with 59 strokes.

Special prizes

Eduardo Guerra won the special prizes with the longest drive, while Mary Ledesma, Aunton Evangelista, Edwin Lara and Albert Ventura took the closest-to-the-pin at holes 5, 7, 13 and 16 respectively.
