Gays eye Dominican Republic as their hub: Washington Blade

Santo Domingo.- An LGBT group is working with government officials and travel industry representatives on a campaign designed to promote gay tourism and rights in the Dominican Republic, washingtonblade.com reports.

The pro-gay outlet on Tuesday said members of the Center for Integrated Training and Research, a local advocacy group known by the Spanish acronym COIN that has fought the AIDS epidemic in the country and throughout the Caribbean for more than two decades, on Monday will meet with Tourism Ministry and Tourism Police representatives n Santo Domingo’s JW Marriott Hotel.

“Representatives from the country’s travel industry and a staffer from Human Rights First, a Washington-based human rights advocacy group, have also been invited alongside members of the media,” the outlet said.

Washingtonblade.com adds that Bob Satawake, husband of gay Washington envoy James “Wally” Brewster, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the event.
