Environment says it protects and cleans up 197 kilometers of coast

Santo Domingo.- The Environment Ministry on Thursday said itintervenes around 197 linear kilometers of shore and marine borders to protectand conserve the coats across the country.

It said the strategic program includes specific prioritiesin nine provinces to protect coastal and marine ecosystems with high ecotourismpotential.

In a statement, Environment said the program to restore thecoasts costs more than RD$12 million, and includes Puerto Plata, La Altagracia,Peravia, Espaillat, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Samana, Azua, Barahona andMontecristi.

It said beaches, reefs and corals will be conditioned, and lakeswould be cleaned up and conserved, among other actions with impact.
