Santo Domingo.- The Environment Ministry, the Group Puntacana Foundation and the La Altagracia Province Tourism Cluster signed an agreement Tuesday to develop the plan to manage the Southeastern Coral Reef Sanctuary in the Dominican Republic .

Environment minister Francisco Domínguez, Puntacana president Frank Rainieri and East Region Hotels and Tourism Projects Association president Manuel Ernesto Veloz agreed to provide technical and manual labor to protect, organize and responsibly manage the southeastern coast.

The proposed Management Plan aims to guarantee the natural conditions to protect species, groups of species, biotic communities and cultural and archaeological resources.

It also aims to ensure the economic benefits derived from eco-tourism and sustainable use of its resources, the Environment Ministry said in a statement.

“We will manage, with the Executive Branch, the inclusion of the Southeast Reefs Sanctuary within the coastline from Cabo Engaño to Miches, with the purpose that everything agreed will be extended to that area,” Dominguez said.
