They’re back!: humpback whales frolic, birth and mate


Samana, Dominican Republic.- As every year, humpback whales, the Atlantic’s most charismatic species is found in Dominican waters to frolic in the still warm waters, give birth and mate.

Although the official whale-watching season starts in January, the humpbacks (Megaptera novaeangliae) begin arriving at the end of Dec. to the Sanctuary Silver Banks and Christmas from different parts of the North Atlantic.

Tour operators already have itineraries, and as each season, outlet recommends ways to make the experience more pleasant.


The all-inclusive tour is recommended for people who visit for the first time, to enjoy a worry-free good time on the boats which nearly all sail from the port at Samaná.
