Colonial Zone gets 682K visits in 2017 on investment

Santo Domingo.-  Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone posted 682,000 visits in 2017, Tourism Ministry Colonial City Promotion Program director, Maribel Villalona revealed Thurs.

She said Tourism’s investment of US$31. 5 million in the ‘Zone’ has prompted 500 new and reopened businesses, mostly serving the tourism sector.

Speaking at the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE) taking place in Bávaro, the official said the number of establishments and services the Colonial City has to offer has grown 94% and what the tourist who stays in the historic center spends daily on average exceeds the national average.

“This city offers the tourist and its visitors a wide and varied offer, not only historical, but cultural, gastronomic, entertainment, family recreation, among others.”
