20th Epifanio Lantigua Tourism Journalism Award tomorrow with intl. guests and 61 participants

Santo Domingo.- The 20th annual Epifanio Lantigua National Tourism Journalism Award (PEL 2024) is set to take place tomorrow, Tuesday, with 61 participants vying for the prestigious prize. The event will also feature the attendance of three international figures from the world of tourism journalism.

María Shaw, President, and Fernando Milo, Secretary-General of the Ibero-American Federation of Tourism Journalists (FIPETUR), along with Miguel Ledhesma, President of the World Organization of Tourism Journalism (OMPT), will be in attendance, representing Uruguay and Argentina, respectively. Yenny Polanco Lovera, President of the Dominican Association of Tourism Press (ADOMPRETUR), confirmed their attendance. The ceremony will be held at the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Santo Domingo Hotel, with a formal dress code.

Polanco Lovera emphasized that these international tourism personalities “are a tangible demonstration of the brotherhood that exists among our countries and the responsibility we have to share experiences, best practices, and strategies that allow us to continue consolidating our offerings in this highly competitive market.”

She further highlighted the extensive experience of the three guests in tourism matters, adding significant value to their professional performance and the knowledge exchange generated by these events.

The event also marks the 47th anniversary of ADOMPRETUR and honors the memory of Puerto Plata journalist Epifanio Lantigua. “Without a doubt, this award has become a benchmark in our country and the region due to the commitment of the Dominican press to promote our attractions and denounce areas that need improvement to continue providing quality,” Polanco Lovera stated.

Categories and participants

This year, awards will be given in categories such as Print Media, Television or YouTube Report, Digital Press, Television Documentary, Print Magazine, Arts and Culture, Photography, Gastronomy, Northern Region Tourism, Eastern Region Tourism, Southern Region Tourism, and the Grand Prize.

Winners in each category will receive RD$50,000, and the Grand Prize winner will receive an additional RD$85,000 and two airline tickets to a destination served by Arajet.

A total of 61 journalists have submitted their work for the PEL, including well-known names in Dominican media.
