Minority party demands Electoral Board uphold high Court ruling

Santo Domingo.- Minority party Opción Democrática, on Wed. demanded that the Central Electoral Board (JCE) uphold the Constitutional Court ruling handed down last March, which acknowledges the political organization’s right to compete in elections.

In a statement, Opción Democrática affirms that the JCE refuses to hear the party’s case, which in its view disqualified it from competing politically in the 2016 elections.” But we later obtained an injunction from the Constitutional Court that recognizing the right to participate in elections, like any other group.”

According to the party headed by former deputy Minou Tavárez Mirabal, since they notified the JCE of the ruling last April, it has held six sessions including on its agenda the issue of recognition, “but it (the JCE) always evades the decision to recognize the party.”
