Dominicans, Haitians among boatpeople in custody in Miami

Miami.– The U.S. Border Patrol said 16 people are in custody who they think were smuggled into the country and dropped off on Peanut Island around midnight.

According to Border Patrol officials, two of the undocumented migrants are Dominican and 11 from Haiti, including two men, seven women, one teen and one infant. Three adults are from Ecuador.

The boat suspected in the smuggling operation was found drifting near Peanut Island and later taken to the Coast Guard station in Lake Worth. All 16 people are being processed by Border Patrol and the case is still under investigation. Their names were not revealed.
