New York State Assembly recognizes Eddy Alcántara for his work at the helm of Pro Consumidor

New York.- Eddy Alcántara, the executive director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor), has been honored by the New York State Assembly for his exceptional work in advocating for Dominican consumers. The recognition took place during the “Annual Dominicans In Albany Event” held at the Capitol Visitors Center in Albany, attended by community leaders, students, and elected officials of Dominican descent from across New York State.

During the ceremony, Alcántara’s remarkable accomplishments in safeguarding the interests of the Dominican people through Pro Consumidor were highlighted. His effective leadership and the positive outcomes achieved by the institution over his two-year tenure were commended. Additionally, his active participation in international platforms to promote consumer rights in the Dominican Republic was acknowledged.

The recognition of Alcántara’s achievements was spearheaded by Dominican-descendant Assembly members Karines Reyes, Amanda Séptimo, Yudelka Tapia, Manny De los Santos, and George Alvarez. The event also welcomed the presence of New York Governor Kathleen Courtney Hochul, who praised the contributions of the Dominican community, particularly in the state of New York, where a significant number of Dominicans reside.

The Consul General of the Dominican Republic in New York, Eligio Jáquez, and Deputy Ignacio Aracena from the Santo Domingo province were also in attendance and received recognition for their dedicated service to the Dominican community. The event served as a platform to honor and celebrate the accomplishments of individuals who have made a positive impact on the Dominican diaspora in New York State.
