Cuba denies allowing a Chinese spy center

Havana.- Cuba has strongly denied the claims made by The Wall Street Journal, stating that the island’s government signed an agreement with China to establish a secret spy center on its territory. Carlos Fernández de Cossío, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, dismissed the information as baseless, slanderous, and intended to justify U.S. sanctions against Cuba while destabilizing the island.

Fernández de Cossío emphasized that the Cuban government rejects any military presence in Latin America and the Caribbean, including the U.S. presence in Guantanamo, located in eastern Cuba.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the alleged spy center would enable regional communication interceptions. However, the report did not provide specific details or location, only mentioning that Cuba would receive billions of dollars in compensation for the infrastructure.

Fernández de Cossío criticized such fabrications, stating that similar false claims have been made in the past, including the supposed acoustic attacks against U.S. diplomatic personnel, nonexistent Cuban military presence in Venezuela, and the imaginary existence of chemical weapons laboratories in Cuba.

He concluded by stating that the hostility of the United States towards Cuba and the harsh measures that inflict humanitarian harm on the Cuban people cannot be justified in any way.

John Kirby, the spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, commented on the issue, stating that the article in The Wall Street Journal is inaccurate. However, he mentioned that the U.S. is focused on mitigating any potential threats from China in the region.
