Dominican-Israeli Friendship Group President condemns DR’s UN vote

Santo Domingo.- Deputy Priscila D’Oleo, president of the Dominican-Israeli Interparliamentary Friendship Group, has vehemently criticized the Dominican government’s vote in the United Nations (UN) in favor of a resolution recommending the Security Council to positively reconsider the State of Palestine’s request for full membership.

D’Oleo characterizes this vote as a stance against Israel, asserting that it does not align with the sentiments of Dominicans, who have historically been allies of Israel.

She condemns the vote as tantamount to endorsing international terrorism, suggesting that the Dominican Republic could have abstained from voting, as other nations have done. D’Oleo emphasizes that the decision was made without consulting the Dominican people and contradicts the nation’s principles.

“We strongly oppose the government’s vote against Israel, a nation beloved by all Dominicans. We are confident that this does not represent the feelings of the Dominican people, particularly the evangelical community,” D’Oleo stated.

The legislator urges the Dominican government to reconsider and reaffirm its support for the Israeli people. While acknowledging the country’s diplomatic relations with Palestine, she argues that this vote contradicts its position in the Israel-Palestine conflict.

“Let us continue to stand in solidarity with the Israeli people, who have consistently supported and trusted us. Our thoughts and prayers are with Israel,” concluded Deputy D’Oleo.
