Haiti joins CARICOM Reparations Commission

Haiti.- The Haitian government has appointed Fritz Deshommes, the rector of the State University of Haiti (UEH), as the country’s representative to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Reparations Commission, tasked with ensuring reparations and restitution.

The official announcement was made via a diplomatic note from the Haitian Foreign Ministry to the CARICOM General Secretariat on August 5, 2024.

According to the statement, this move follows Haiti’s participation in the 47th Conference of Heads of State and Government in Grenada and a speech on restorative justice delivered by Edgard Leblanc Fils, President of the Transitional Presidential Council, on July 29, 2024.

This marks the first time Haiti will be represented on the CARICOM Reparations Commission.
