Dominican Republic and ten nations reject TSJ’s decision on Maduro’s victory

Santiago de Chile.- On Friday, eleven countries, including the Dominican Republic, Chile, and Argentina, rejected the Venezuelan Supreme Court’s certification of Nicolás Maduro’s victory in the July 28 elections. They criticized the National Electoral Council’s (CNE) results, citing issues such as restricted access for opposition representatives and a lack of independent auditing.

The statement, issued by the Chilean Foreign Ministry, also noted concerns from the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Venezuela about the CNE’s and TSJ’s impartiality. The signatories emphasized that only a thorough, independent audit could ensure respect for Venezuela’s democratic process and voiced concern over human rights violations against those demanding electoral integrity.

While the TSJ validated the CNE’s results, the opposition coalition, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), contended that their candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, won and supported their claim with 83.5% of electoral records. The CNE declared Maduro the winner without disaggregated results, conflicting with international expectations.
