For Dominicans, corruption climbs, trust in Justice falls

Santo Domingo.- In a 10-year period the country’s perception on corruption rose 3%, from 62% in 2006 to 65% in 2016, according to the report “Economic prospects of Latin America 2018: Rethinking the institutions for development “conducted by international NGOs.

“The country has a wide margin to improve institutional actions, especially in terms of corruption and impartiality of the public administration,” states the report in its Dominican Republic section.

The study also found that the proportion of the population that expresses confidence in its government has fallen, from 64% in 2006 to 55% in 2016. “The proportion of trust in the country’s judicial system and the courts also fell, from 41% to 30% in that period.”

The report was released at the Economy Ministry Thurs. morning by Sebastián Nieto Parra, deputy director for Latin America and the Caribbean Unit of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
