President Abinader launches Section I of the Santiago Cable Car
Santiago, DR.- President Luis Abinader’s relentless drive to transform the nation reached a significant milestone this Sunday with the inauguration of the initial segment of the Santiago Cable Car. This monumental project, realized through an investment totaling RD$6.544 million pesos, promises to directly benefit approximately 74,000 residents across nine densely populated sectors of Santiago, the city’s bustling heart.
The Santiago Cable Car is an integral component of the Santiago Integrated Transportation System (SIT-Stgo), a visionary initiative aimed at harmonizing the physical infrastructure, technological advancements, and fare structures of various public transportation modes. By doing so, it seeks to elevate the standard of living for city dwellers while championing sustainable mobility solutions to mitigate environmental impact.
At the inauguration ceremony, President Abinader reflected on his previous visit to the site on September 29, 2021, marking the commencement of this transformative endeavor. He underscored the significance of the Santiago Integrated Transportation System as a pivotal solution addressing one of the nation’s paramount social challenges: land transportation.
“We are orchestrating an unparalleled revolution in our country’s mobility. Despite facing economic adversities, over nearly four years, we have undertaken comprehensive urban initiatives, fortifying existing systems and introducing groundbreaking projects like the Santiago Cable Car,” affirmed the head of state.
A Safe, Efficient, and Inclusive Mode of Transport
Joined by Vice President Raquel Peña and First Lady Raquel Arbaje, President Abinader emphasized his administration’s commitment to implementing a genuinely integrated transportation network, unparalleled in scale and pace in the nation’s two largest metropolises.
The Santiago Cable Car stands as a testament to this commitment, offering thousands a safe, efficient, and inclusive mode of transport. Beyond easing traffic congestion, it promises to enhance residents’ quality of life by facilitating access to previously hard-to-reach areas.
