Dominican Navy rescues two US citizens from drifting sailboat

Samaná.- On June 11, the Navy of the Dominican Republic conducted a successful rescue operation, retrieving a sailboat adrift approximately 40 nautical miles northeast of Samaná in the Atlantic Ocean.

The sailboat, named “Nauti Ridge,” boasting white and blue colors, measures around 12 meters (40 feet) in length and 2.5 meters (8 feet) in width. Two American citizens aboard the vessel were rescued in perfect health.

The “Nauti Ridge” had embarked from the United States Virgin Islands for recreational purposes. However, it encountered propulsion system issues during the journey, rendering it adrift.

The Maritime Operations Center (COM) of the Dominican Republic Navy received information from the United States Coast Guard Liaison and swiftly coordinated with the vessel “Nauti Ridge.” Subsequently, the Navy’s coast guard cutter GC-104 Aldebarán sprang into action, rescuing the sailboat. It was later towed to the Samaná dock without any further incidents reported.

This prompt intervention by the Dominican Navy reaffirms its commitment to ensuring security in jurisdictional waters and underscores its dedication to safeguarding those navigating our seas.
