Country’s electricity demand already exceeds 80 GWh per day

Santo Domingo – The Dominican electricity sector has reached a new historical record by surpassing 80 gigawatt hours (GWh) of daily demand.

According to data from the Coordinating Organism (OC), on Wednesday, June 26, 3,530.21 megawatts (MW) of energy were supplied, representing the total electricity demand.

This achievement underscores the strength and responsiveness of the electricity system, the result of energy planning, timely private investments in generation, and other development and modernization policies promoted by the government of Luis Abinader.

The CO report also highlights the crucial role of renewable energies from solar, wind, and biomass plants, guaranteeing that they will meet the growing demand and contribute significantly to climate change mitigation. Approximately 16% of the energy consumed in the country comes from clean sources.

It is essential to highlight that the sector’s energy generation and supply capacity directly and positively impacts the population’s quality of life, facilitating access to critical services.
