Luis Abinader removes director of Migration from office

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader has dismissed Venancio Alcántara as the general director of Migration, a role he had held since 2022. In his place, the president appointed Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, as established by decree 560-24 issued by the Executive Branch on Saturday and announced on Sunday by the Palace.

Before this appointment, Lee Ballester was the director of the Armed Forces’ Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cybersecurity, and Intelligence Center (C5i). He is an honor graduate of the Naval Academy of the Navy in 1983 and has extensive experience in various areas related to border security measures.

Additionally, Lee Ballester has served as a coordinator of support services for the National Police on Citizen Security matters and is an expert in International Maritime Organization (IMO) conventions and regulations.

It is all a revolving door, dismiss and replace. Past history teaches us the new director most likely will have a short tenure, especially if his name is written on a post-it note pasted on his office door.

Bu this why you keep pressuring the government. Until they start making changes with the Haitian situation. The reason that nothing has been done is because the Dominican people have not been complaining.

Does it give you great pleasure to always be so negative? If anything is done, it is always “never enough” or wrong for you.
It is a difficult job to undo decades of incompetence and corruption but you seem to think it can be done overnight without setbacks. Has it ever occurred to you that at least someone is trying?
