M.T. Cabrera, File

Santo Domingo.- The grassroots movement Marcha Verde (Green March) on Fri. predicted that their “March of the Million” will be successful because  a diversity of sectors of society has been involved in its organization in towns across the country.

“We have developed are own local initiatives to pay the expenses of transferring people to the capital, where the same will take place next Sunday 12,” said Green March spokeswoman María Teresa Cabrera.

She there’s great enthusiasm for what she labeled, “the happy and motivated participation of so many people.”

She said special activities have been organized ranging from the commission in the corners to local public centers, “with little hands, requesting a contribution according to each citizen, up to medium collaborations of merchants, business people and personalities, to pay for the travel from each town towards the march.”

The grassroots leader added that the population’s support for the protest is based on its determined will to end the impunity to corruption that squanders taxpayers’ money which becomes the personal riches of government officials and their associates, “diminishing the impact of Public Policies that should reduce the terrible quality of life of the immense majority of Dominican citizens.”
