Dominican Rep. to abandon Paris pact on fossil fuel frenzy

CNLCC executives Héctor Turbí, David Montes de Oca, Enrique de Leon.

Santo Domingo.- The National Committee to Combat Climate Change, CNLCC, on Tues. warned that the Dominican Republic will abandon the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, signed in 2015, by bidding off blocks to explore and exploit fossil fuels in its territory and coasts.

It said the Energy and Mines Ministry in association with Wood Mackenzie, will offer the 14 blocks in Houston, from July 10 to December 2019.

“Six coastal blocks will be tendered in the Cibao (north) basin, three blocks on land in the Enriquillo (west) basin, a block on land in the basin of Azua (south) and four offshore in the San Pedro basin (east),” the environmental group said in a statement. https://www.worldoil.com/news/2019/6/6/dominican-republic-to-hold-first-licensing-round

“The Dominican Republic had committed itself to reduce by 25% greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, commitment that will definitely be impossible to meet with the opening of the extraction of hydrocarbons in the territory and on the Dominican coasts placed in tender in the USA,” the CNLCC added.
