Poultry and pork are essential proteins for millions of people in the world. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) explains that the production of these foods, specifically poultry, plays a fundamental role in developing countries, being a commercial industry that generates jobs and is experiencing rapid growth.
Given this growing expansion of a sector that is becoming more relevant, animal protein producers in Brazil, the leading exporter of poultry meat and the second largest producer of this food globally, warn that the world population must be ready for a new reality: to receive these products at a higher price.
For Ricardo Santin, president of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), the time of cheap food is ending because the cost level has changed. Now there is a new level that impacts the basic products for animal feed so that “consumers will have to spend a little more money to cover their essential needs.”
