Recently, drivers have been increasing complaints because DIGESETT police officers are allegedly imposing fines indiscriminately for alleged violations of traffic regulations.
Without having previously initiated an educational campaign on the content of Law 63-17 on Mobility, Land Transportation, Transit, and Road Safety of the Dominican Republic, DIGESETT agents seem to have been thrown into the streets to detect “violations.”
“They seem to be more interested in capturing money for the DIGESETT through fines than in organizing traffic conditions that are becoming more and more chaotic,” expressed an indignant driver loudly, who was issued a citation when trying to avoid violating a red traffic light; he ended up stopping on top of one of the stripes of a crosswalk.
The DIGESETT is now an agency of the National Police, headed by Brigadier General Ramon Antonio Guzman Peralta, PN.
