Senate wants Dominican government to control Bahia de las Aguilas

Santo Domingo.- The Senate on Tuesday unanimously approved a resolution to support Pedernales (southwest) senator Dionis Sánchez in his push for the Dominican government to take control of the lands at Bahia de las Aguilas.

The resolution said the lawmaker’s initiative is needed so that the Dominican State can take effective control over all the lands, “to start once and for all, the region’s tourism development.”

On several occasions Sanchez has said the area’s beaches, instead of leaving them to drug traffickers, should attract tourists and create jobs in a region that waits for and needs them.

The ruling PLD party lawmaker said the government should proceed with diligence due in the current litigation so that it can legally cancel all titles.

"What we expect is that the judge isn’t removed from their bench or that the court records are taken away, because the mother title is still intact, which means that this land still belongs to the Dominican State."
