Despite downpours civil society slams corrupt officials

Santo Domingo.- Sunday’s downpours didn’t keep Dominican Republic civil society groups from gathering in front of Independencia park to protest against government corruption.

The crowd chanted new slogans and included other names of allegedly corrupt former and current officials, including San Cristobal mayor and former Major Leaguer Raul Mondesi, Youth Minister Jorge Minaya, and Santiago mayor Gilberto Serrulle.

The chants also targeted close collaborators of former president Leonel Fernandez, including Ethics commissioner Marino Vinicio Castillo former Public Works minister Victor Diaz Rua and senator Felix Bautista.

Representatives from various provinces attended the protest, where president Danilo Medina was criticized for allegedly failing to dismiss corrupt officials.
