The Government denies Philippines ex President sought asylum

Santo Domingo. – Dominican Republic’s Foreign Relations Ministry affirmed Friday that they haven’t received any request for political asylum from ex Philippines president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, or from any other person.

In Manila, local media also report that the ex President’s spokespersons denied seeking political asylum in the Caribbean nation, in response to statements by the head of the Philippines Justice Department, Leila de Lima, that she has asked the Dominican Government to clarify the reports.

Macapagal-Arroyo spokesman Jesus Santos, quoted by Efe, denied to that has any request for asylum.

Philippine Justice has prohibited the former Head of State from traveling abroad, on charges of cheating in recent elections.
