Ex Cincinnati star pitcher Jose Rijo is now a fugitive

Santo Domingo.- Ex Cincinnati star pitcher Jose Rijo will be arrested before Christmas Eve, the head of the Justice Ministry’s Anti-laundering Unit announced Monday.

German Miranda said the World Series MVP “will be arrested from now until December 24 because he’s already in contempt of court and he can’t do that anywhere in the world. He couldn’t do that in the United States, nor in any part of Europe, it’s a disrespect to the subpoena that is being served on him.”

The ex Major leaguer has failed to appear twice for questioning by the Assistant Prosecutor, who heads the investigation into his business dealings with the also fugitive Matías Avelino Castro, wanted for the murder of the journalist Jose Silvestre in La Romana.

Miranda, interviewed on Antena Latina Channel 7, affirmed having evidence linking Castro’s seized businesses in Dominican Republic, valued at RD$100 million (US$2.6 million), with Rijo, who didn’t show up for questioning for the first time in November 3, claiming stomach problems, and again December 6.
