Hapless Accounts Chamber gets a boost from USAID

SANTO DOMINGO. – Dominican Republic’s hapless Accounts Chamber today got a boost from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), with the introduction of the “Guide for the Topic of Overview,” aimed at bolstering society’s credibility in government management.

The manual funded by USAID states that what determines that the overseers’ work lead to strategies to benefit the population’s needs and expectations is the perfect relation between the subject of review and the Accounts Chamber as a supervisory authority, and specifies the rights and obligations by the parts which converge during government audits.

Accounts Chamber president Licelot Marte, UASID representative James Watson, and Presidency Chief of Staff Cesar Pina Toribio attended the activity, among others.

Legislators from different parties have accused Barrios of using Chamber audits for political reasons, as president Leonel Fernandez reportedly had to ramrod her confirmation in Congress, despite strong opposition even from his ruling PLD party lawmakers.
