Santo Domingo.- The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has released information on the upcoming presidential and congressional elections scheduled for May 19, 2024. The electoral roll reflects the significant impact of the Dominican vote abroad, with 7,281,763 voters within the Dominican Republic and 863,785 eligible voters abroad, bringing the total to 8,145,548 voters at the general level.
In terms of the impact of voting abroad when compared with the number of voters per province at the local level, it stands as the second district with the highest number of Dominicans eligible to vote, following the province of Santo Domingo, which boasts 1,649,032 voters.
The JCE indicates that the last municipal elections, held on February 18, had a total of 8,145,548 eligible voters, encompassing the 863,785 Dominicans registered abroad. The update and registration of the electoral roll were conducted based on resolution 54-2023, addressing changes of residence, registration closure, and overseas registrations for electoral purposes for the 2024 Ordinary General Elections.
Breaking down the data by population segments, the JCE reveals that the general registry consists of 4,176,365 women eligible to vote (51%) and 3,969,183 men eligible to vote (49%). Within the Dominican Republic, women eligible to vote total 3,713,461 (51%), while men total 3,568,302 (49%). The foreign registry shows the ability to vote for 462,904 females (54%) and 400,881 males (46%).
In the Dominican Republic, the province of Santo Domingo has the highest number of voters, reaching 1,649,032, followed by Santiago with 785,287, the National District with 794,080, and other provinces with varying voter counts.
Abroad, the United States leads with the highest number of eligible voters, totaling 613,340 Dominicans. Spain follows with 107,861, Puerto Rico with 43,748, and several other countries with varying numbers of eligible voters.
