The USGS indicated that the tremor originated near Lebanon, New Jersey, approximately 75 kilometers west of New York, with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8.
The quake, lasting several seconds, was felt across the city, with reports from internet users spanning from Brooklyn to the Bronx and Manhattan.
