Dominican Republic and Colombia host Bachata and Merengue workshops

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Culture (MINC) and the District Institute of the Arts (IDARTES) of Bogotá, Colombia, will host an event from August 5 to 10 to promote bachata and merengue, which UNESCO has recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Supported by the Presidential Agency for International Cooperation of Colombia (APC Colombia), this event is part of the “Strengthening Capacities for Collaborative Work and Network Building” project, aimed at enhancing the teaching of these heritage dance genres in Bogotá as part of South-South-Dominican Republic cooperation for 2023-2025.

The event will feature conferences and workshops at the Casa de la Música in Bogotá’s Colonial City, with free public registration. Additionally, Bogotá’s dance sector professionals will join remotely through IDARTES Dance Management and La Casona de la Danza.

The project’s goal is to improve collaborative work models and network building in dance training institutions and academies focused on bachata and merengue. This exchange of methodologies aims to support the sustainability of Bogotá’s artistic and cultural scene.

The Dominican Republic will be represented by delegations from its Ministries of Culture, Economy, Planning and Development, and Foreign Affairs.

This initiative is part of the VII Joint Commission for Technical, Scientific, and Cultural Cooperation between Colombia and the Dominican Republic for the 2023-2025 period.

The formal reception for the Colombian delegation will occur on August 5 at 5:00 pm at the Casa de la Música, following the first day of training organized by the Vice Ministry of Creativity and Artistic Training of MINC.
