DN Mayor’s Office advances women’s soccer with U-13 World Cup event

Santo Domingo.- The National District mayor’s office played a pivotal role in the U-13 Women’s Soccer World Cup, where Cibao FC emerged as champions by defeating Garrincha FC 1-0. The tournament, which featured 14 teams from across the country, highlighted the growing visibility of women’s football in the Dominican Republic.

At the opening ceremony, ADN Secretary General Elizabeth Mateo, representing Mayor Carolina Mejía, welcomed players and spectators, emphasizing the council’s dedication to supporting sports activities that foster youth development. Deputy Mayor Stalin Alcántara led the awards ceremony, praising the players’ skill and effort and stressing the importance of such initiatives for the advancement of sports in the city.

The final match took place at the Barça Academy facilities at Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University (UNPHU). As the U-13 World Cup concluded, teams are gearing up for the U-17 Women’s World Cup, set to start on October 16 in Santo Domingo and Santiago. The Dominican Republic’s hosting of these events reinforces its status as a leader in women’s sports.
