Medical Association plans four-day hospital strike starting Tuesday

Santo Domingo.- After unsuccessful negotiations with President Luis Abinader, the Dominican Medical Association (CMD) announced a nationwide hospital strike from Tuesday, November 19, through Friday, November 22. The CMD’s National Board of Directors urgently approved the resolution to suspend all health services in public hospitals, sub-centers, and primary care centers, with exceptions for emergency and critical care patients.

The CMD expressed frustration after 11 months of discussions with the government over salary increases. The government’s offer of a 10% raise would add only about 6,000 Dominican pesos to doctors’ salaries, leaving doctors with around 2,500 pesos after taxes, which the CMD described as “humiliating.”

The association declared its commitment to this cause and warned that the protests could continue for up to a year. However, the CMD remains open to dialogue and reaching an agreement with the government.
