Santo Domingo.- In a heartfelt Christmas address shared via social media and television, Dominican President Luis Abinader reaffirmed his government’s commitment to eliminating hunger by 2028. Reflecting on past achievements and future aspirations, he urged Dominicans to unite in building a fairer and more equitable society, emphasizing the values of unity, roots, and history during the holiday season.
Abinader outlined ambitious goals, including reducing poverty to 15%, lowering extreme poverty to under 1%, and ensuring 80% of young graduates secure formal employment. He highlighted the transformative impact of social programs like Supérate, which have contributed to poverty reduction, and the success of educational initiatives such as Open and Active Schools, which benefit students and communities alike.
On the economic front, the president noted growth in tourism and free trade zones as pivotal for achieving a per capita income of $15,000 and expanding the middle class from 40% to 50%. Infrastructure investments, including the Integrated Transport System in Santo Domingo and Santiago’s monorail project, were celebrated as steps toward improved urban connectivity. Concluding with a hopeful tone, Abinader wished all Dominicans a season filled with love, peace, and unity, expressing confidence in the nation’s shared future.
