COE reports six fatalities in Holiday traffic accidents

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Committee (COE) reported six fatalities among 63 traffic accidents within the “Conciencia por la Vida, Navidad y Año Nuevo 2024” operation. Of the incidents, 48 involved motorcycles, six involved light vehicles, four were pedestrian accidents, and one each involved a bus and a jeep.

Hospitals treated 585 individuals, with 335 cases related to the operation. Among these, 73 people suffered alcohol poisoning, including 11 minors aged 10 to 17, and 35 cases of food poisoning were recorded. Provinces with the highest incident rates include Puerto Plata, San Cristóbal, the National District, Santo Domingo, La Vega, and San Pedro de Macorís.

To enhance road safety, the National Institute of Transit and Land Transport (Intrant) supervised 195 intersections and optimized traffic flow at 15 key points in Greater Santo Domingo. This update reflects the second bulletin issued during the ongoing holiday operation.
