Acquittal in Vice President slander case ´a stab against decency´

Santo Domingo.- ASantiago three judge panel court on Thursday night acquitted TV commentatorand lawyer Marcos Martinez, who was charged with forging documents to slander vice presidentMargarita Cedeño.

Santiago 3rdAppellate Court judges Deyanira Mendez, Yudelka Francisca Clase and Luz Mariel Santosruled to acquit Martinez on insufficient evidence submitted by the plaintiff.

The judges also ruledto lift the constraints on the defendant in effect since April 2014, whenMartinez averted pretrial detention and a RD$800,000 fine.

The VP reacts

Vice presidentMargarita Cedeño called Martinez´s release, "a stab against decency andintegrity."
