Santo Domingo.- The children’s rights advocate Plan International on Tues. announced it’s ready to assist children and their families in the wake of hurricane Irma’s impact on the Dominican Republic and Haiti, which is expected to arrive early Thursday.
“Our immediate concern is the safety of children in affected areas,” Plan said in a statement.
“Children, especially girls, are the most vulnerable when disasters occur, so we will work to ensure that they receive the support they need due to the impact of the hurricane,” said Plan International
“Plan International has already deployed personnel. This will allow us to respond immediately to the needs of children in the communities where we are present,” in the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
“Child traffickers and other criminals take advantage of the chaos after an emergency or disaster and can take advantage of the vulnerable situation of children.”
