Don’t impose open primaries, influential NGO asks senators

Santo Domingo.- The influential NGO Citizen Participation on Wed. asked the senators not to impose open, simultaneous primaries to select the candidacies of political parties to elected office, which hasn’t been the result of consensus since the first draft of the fill for the Law of Parties.

It said that the approval wasn’t agreed with the various organizations the political parties, and other social sectors.

“At present the open primaries are object of a generalized political and social rejection, and that divide even the ruling party (PLD) itself, which has almost absolute control of Congress,” they civic movement said in a statement.

Likewise, Citizen Participation added that neither party has convened its directors to approve a proposal that contradicts its by-laws.
