Legal action against driver obstructing foreigners’ arrest by immigration

Punta Cana.- The General Directorate of Immigration has announced its intention to pursue legal action against the driver of a bus who obstructed the interception of irregular foreigners in Bávaro, La Altagracia province.

According to the institution, the driver not only impeded the work of immigration inspectors but also endangered their lives, in violation of Law 285-04 and human rights principles.

Efforts are underway to track down the irregular foreigners who fled the scene. While the majority have been apprehended, they will undergo legal processing and subsequent deportation in accordance with the law.

The DGM has urged citizens to refrain from interfering with immigration interception operations targeting individuals in irregular conditions within the Dominican Republic. This incident underscores a recurring challenge where individuals disrupt the work of inspectors, often resorting to verbal and physical abuse.

The act of harboring illegal foreigners undermines the efforts of Immigration agents and violates Law 285-04, Migration regulations.

Venancio Alcántara, Director of the General Directorate of Immigration, emphasized the institution’s commitment to upholding the law and respecting constitutional provisions.

“The act of harboring illegal foreigners undermines the efforts of Immigration agents and violates Law 285-04, Migration regulations.” ?!

Than 99% of country will be in violation of this law , especially those who benefit the most from their illegal status , construction ,”watchy”,physical labor , agriculture etc….

I wonder why some are above that law , it’s not aplicable to them …?!

It would be ironic if the illegals they speak of actually built the buildings they work out of (DGM).

…efforts of Immigration agents ????????. I live in Bavaro, Punta Cana. There is nothing easier than finding these illegal Haitians. They all work outside. They’re not hiding. And by the way, why no mention of the hords of ex-pats from other nations who have overstayed their entry? I’m surrounded by broke, lazy, drunk people from all over the world- but only read and hear about those darn hard working Haitians. Cheers to the bus driver for his humanity.

Immigration roundups happen quite often in the tourist zone. The foreigners, bus drivers, and police mostly follow the same script.

Just supposing, had the police chase of the bus carrying the “foreigners” not been recorded and then posted to the social media most probably the bus driver would have been detained and released after a payment of some sort, just following the script.

Because of the broad publicity of the recording the legal action has to take place for Migration to save face.
