Hurricane season prompts intervention of dangerous rivers basins

Santo Domingo.- Faced with the threats the swollen rivers pose during the hurricane season, the Environment and Natural Resources Ministry on Monday announced more intensive work to intervene several watersheds along their critical sections.

Environment minister Bautista Rojas said the sections pose a risk to nearby towns, as well as to infrastructure and farmlands, for which environmental permits were issued to various agencies such as Water Resources and the Public Works, and private companies as well, to expedite construction of channels and levies to save lives and prevent material losses.

Rojas added that among the rivers intervened during current hurricane season figure Haina, Nizao and Yubaso, in San Cristobal province (south).
