Foreign Ministry describes Grimaldi’s statements as “unfortunate”

Santo Domingo.– The Government yesterday disavowedthe statements made by DominicanRepublic’s envoy to Pope Francis, VictorGrimaldi, against his US counterpartJames W. Brewster.

In a press release, the Foreign Ministry said that"Grimaldi made his unfortunate statements on a personal level, and theydo not reflect the position of the Dominican Government."

"The Dominican Government recognizesthe work done by Ambassador JamesBrewster in a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda," the Foreign Ministry pointed out.

The disapproval wasissued hours after Grimaldi warned deputy foreign minister Jose ManuelTrullols that he does notaccept threats, referring to a call he saysTrullols made, after his letter to Pope Francis in defense of cardinal Nicolasde Jesus Lopez Rodriguez.
