Dominican Govt. reiterates: No mass deportation of Haitians

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican government on Tuesday reierated it won’t deport Haitians indiscriminately, just hours after a United Nations agency stated concern over possible mass repatriations and “expatriations” of Dominicans of Haitian descent.
"To these organizations I say not to worry, the government of the Dominican Republic is absolutely respectful of human rights," Presidency spokesman Roberto Rodriguez Marchena said in a National Palace press conference.
He said authorities don’t plan mass or arbitrary deportations and "always an individualized process, each one a particular case" instead.
The UN work group of experts on African descent on Tuesday urged the Dominican government, in a document issued in Geneva, to avert arbitrary deportations of Haitian citizens and prevent expatriations of Dominicans of Haitian descent.
