How many guns ‘assigned’ to civilians? Police Chief doesn’t know
Santo Domingo.- National Police chief Nelson Peguero on Mondaysaid all cases of civilians who’ve been assigned a weapon by police via the so-called"Formulario 25" will be reviewed, and revealed that he doesn’t knowhow many such guns are in citizens hands.
Peguero’s announcement comes just three days after former SantoDomingo State University (UASD) dean and San Cristobal senatorial candidate MateoAquino was gunned down with a pistol "assigned" to the powerfultruckers’ union leader Blas Peralta.
The official said there’ll be a thorough review of the Formulario25 and of those who seek to qualify for a permit to carry an assigned handgun.
He said he doesn’t know how many guns the Police haveassigned through the document, but noted that Peralta’s gun was issued in 2006 duringthe tenure of former chief Bernardo Santana.
